12 Things to Consider When Looking for a New Church

Some have full bands, others have orchestras and choirs. Some sing gospel, rock, hard rock, etc. Since worship is a key part of our church experience, be sure to give the style of worship serious consideration. You want your church to be a place where you can connect with other believers. Some churches offer a very simple ministry approach and others extend an elaborate system of classes, programs, productions and more. So, for instance, if you’re single and want a church with a single’s ministry, be sure to check into this before joining. If you have kids, you'll want to explore the children's ministry. Smaller church fellowships are usually unable to offer a wide variety of ministries and programs, while larger ones can support an array of opportunities. However, a small church can provide a more intimate, close-knit environment that a large church may not be able to cultivate as effectively. In others, a suit and tie or dress would be more appropriate. In some churches, anything goes. So, ask yourself, "What is right for me—dressy, casual, or both?" Next, take some time to list specific questions you would want to call and ask before visiting the church.Prayer is an important part of the process of finding a church. As you seek the Lord’s direction, he will give you the wisdom to know where he wants you to fellowship.

Want a happier life and better sex? Go to church | Opinion

A recent study from Pew Research indicated that the trend of decline of Americans who identify as Christian has leveled off. In my Easter column for USA TODAY, I pointed out how young men are now engaging church at higher levels than young women. All of this seems to be a part of a cultural moment that is worth exploring. Why might people want to return to church?Don’t go to church because it is the latest fad. Instead, maybe give church a chance, because you just might find the life and the community you’ve wanted − and it could be a safe place to explore the faith you’ve been considering.A recent study from the Pew Research Center indicated that the trend of decline of Americans who identify as Christian has leveled off since the COVID-19 pandemic. While it's too early to tell if this is a lasting trend, new data from Barna Group points to a possible bump in church attendance itself. But I am those things because I believe what Christianity teaches about trusting and following Jesus Christ to be true. I believe the claims Christianity makes are not only true, but also worthy of regularly gathering together in churches to celebrate that truth, support one another and grow in faith together.

Why We Need the Church – Venn Foundation

The church in Aotearoa has not always done a great job in this regard, and I say this as an Anglican—we can probably point to the worst failures in our own story (as well, I hope, to some of the signs of hope). The church in Aotearoa has not always done a great job in this regard, and I say this as an Anglican—we can probably point to the worst failures in our own story (as well, I hope, to some of the signs of hope). The point is not that our history is perfect, but that Paul wants our hope to defeat racism to be centred in the Church as an embassy of Christ’s new Israel rather than in political reform (in his day of Rome, in our day of the New Zealand Government).Do you want to see people willing to commit sacrificially to the way of Jesus? Then you should commit yourself sacrificially to the pattern Jesus established through the apostles. Thirdly, it is through the Church that God is primarily seen in action in his world. As we contemplate the action of the Church in the world—which is a participation in the greater work of God in the world—I want to draw your attention to two particular actions of the Church which are distinctive and central to our witness. The first is baptism, the entry point into the Church, which marks out our citizenship of a different country and our loyalty to a different Lord.Of course, the Church does far more than these two actions—we read Scripture together; we act to redeem the world; we live transformed lives which portray the holiness given to us; and so on—but these two acts, both commanded by Jesus, are only possible collectively. As Jesus commanded, the apostles were to baptise others to bring them in, and the Lord’s Supper is something which happens as a group not as individuals. In conclusion, I want to give you encouragement.

Steve Davis: Christians should want to go to church

The Rev. Steve Davis points out that church attendance is way down and considers whether Christians should go to church. It reminds me of a question that I often hear: Do I have to go to church to be a Christian? And my answer is always the same: You don’t have to do anything but trust the finished work of Christ to be a Christian. But if you really have trusted Christ, you will want to go to church. The church is both universal, made up of every believer, and the local church, made up of believers who belong to the same congregation. The church is the bride of Christ. If you love Jesus, you will love his bride. You will want to go to church because you recognize that you need the warmth and encouragement that comes from gathering together with fellow Christians. You will want to go to church because you desire to be obedient to the word of God, which says to “not neglect to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:25)Jesus said, not everyone who says Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven. Repeating a name twice indicates intimacy and there will be people who say they really know Jesus but actually do not. Church attendance does not save you, but a sign that you are saved is that you love the church.

12 Reasons You Might Not Feel Like Going to Church | Crossway

Sometimes Christians have a hard time with church because there’s little direction coming from the leaders. We want to participate, contribute, and give ourselves to the mission Christ gave his disciples (Matt. 28:18–20). Sometimes Christians can’t find a church that aligns with their beliefs. The church you attend might be your default church but not your desired church, so you feel doctrinally homeless. You’d love for your church to line up with your convictions, but you don’t want to be divisive. There are many reasons Christians might not feel like going to church. But if you can discern the reason behind your reluctance, the path forward becomes clearer. An accurate diagnosis is half the cure—even when the remedy is hard to apply. Some Christians struggle to attend church for physical reasons like exhaustion, illness, disease, or chronic pain. It might be obvious or unnoticed, temporary or permanent, diagnosed or mysterious. Regardless, you’re physically burdened. The world is broken, you’re not a machine, and sometimes the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak (Matt.Perhaps you’re often traveling, or the weekends offer valuable time to catch up on homework or house projects. For many moms, hauling young children to church can be chaotic and exhausting, and arguing with older kids each week can leave you feeling like a hostage negotiator.
